Piping for heating systems are its main “blood vessels”. Obviously, the selection and subsequent installation of pipes must be handled with due care.
Pipe
Modern range of pipes for heating, submitted by various manufacturers, is very great. The most common variations of pipelines are:
* Steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel;
* Copper;
* PEX (metal-PEX, polyethylene, PEX reinforced with aluminum).
Copper pipes
Copper tubes for heating, many believe the leader in durability, reliability and maintainability of compounds. Its unique copper pipe is also its very low internal resistance – 40 (!) Times less than that of steel pipe. This factor allows to make copper heating pipes are very thin. The disadvantage of copper wiring is its cost – it is about 2.5 times the cost of wiring for heating PEX.
Copper pipes are good by the fact that they can hide in the walls of the house, followed by incorporation. Installation of copper pipe connection method involves brazing silver-solder. Experts note that the copper pipe – it is virtually the only way to get absolutely reliable system, capable to serve for more than one generation.
Pipe
PEX pipes
PEX is connected with the special equipment, which heats the PEX to the melting temperature, and thus the fitting is welded to the pipe. If the connection is cut crosswise, then the weld is not visible – materials pipes and fittings literally mixed together. This connection is very reliable.
Deficiencies of PEX in comparison with copper: a large thickness of pipes and fittings, a large exposure to temperature deformation, a high degree of aging at high temperatures (over the years, pipelines have become more fragile, like the long lain in the ground a PEX bag). The guaranteed service life of the heating system of PEX is 15 … 30 years.
Pipe cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) is different from PEX only more flexible and way to connect. These pipes extend a special apparatus, are inserted into the fitting, then the apparatus is removed, and the pipe is securely compress fitting. The main disadvantages of such a pipe – a limited lifetime at high temperatures (like PEX), and a very high flexibility. Beautiful outdoor wiring to make such a pipe is practically impossible – it has to hide in the walls.
Metal PEX pipe
pipe
This pipe is a layer cake: the inner layer – cross-linked polyethylene, then a layer of glue, then a layer of aluminum, re-glue, and, finally, the outer layer of polyethylene or other material. In all of these layers superimposed on top brass fittings.
The main advantages of metal pipes for heating are:
* Kislorodonepronitsaemost that can slow the process of corrosion and wear of the heating equipment;
* A low coefficient of linear expansion, which avoids additional compensator mounting highways;
* High mechanical strength;
* Resistance to corrosion and deposition of sediments on the inner surface;
* Antistatic;
* Low hydraulic resistance.
Metal pipes are by pressing or threaded connections without the use of welding. This will reduce the cost of installation and receive an environmentally safe system of heating.
Steel pipes
Steel pipes
Steel pipes are widely represented in the market. The disadvantages of steel pipes should include the need for welding work when installing the system and corrosion processes taking place in their walls. Such defects are deprived of galvanized pipes, if they use the mounting fittings. In this case, both types of metal pipes are heavier, and work with them requires a certain skill.
The most serious shortcoming of steel pipes is their overgrowing the wall coating, which dramatically reduces their capacity and leads to complete overgrowing after several years of operation.
Flow pipes in the heating system of private homes will depend on the selected owner wiring (double-pipe or pipe). Modern heating system, especially for large-area, twin-tube wiring means to regulate the temperature in each heated room with temperature regulators. The only advantage of Single pipe scheme – lower cost.
