PEX Pipe

Solar panel for hot water heating

Believe it or not, PEX tube is also used by solar panel installators. Solar install guy use these to carry out specific procedures such as solar water heater collector. So the next time you get relief from hot water problem, you might just want to thank the person who invented these pipes.

PEX pipes come in different colors. These are not there just to make the pipes look more appealing to the eye, but these colors also have a specific function to perform. Red pipes are usually used for hot water while white & blue pipes are meant for cold water.

PVC pipes for saving money, or PEX piping for quality?

To avoid wasting some money, most people will go for a PVC pipe instead of a PEX pipe. Beside the economic benefit, the PVC conduit also holds a down side. Virtually, these types of pipes are only able to be taken for cold drinking water. In very hot water, the water line can last approximately 3 years and after that cracks. The PEX pipe however, will be able to persist for through 40 years to hot water and high pressures, so it’s a lot better investment when compared to the PVC pipe. The PEX pipe is therefore cost efficient in balancing to the PVC pipe, despite that in the actual charges a new PEX pipe is pricier.

Typically PEX plumbing pipe system must have almost no changes and replacing at some point. Therefore, the PEX piping products are mainly favored not mainly for water installations around the house, also for the home heating systems. In the open air, the PEX piping systems can be utilized limited to smaller piping. The PVC tube is out of the question in these situations, because sort of water pipe is unable to deal with cold or high temperature out in outside. Yet, the PVC tubing may last nearly as much as a good PEX piping tube if saved in fine environments without domestic hot water runs by it.

In regards to installing rates, the PEX plumbing pipe set up is virtually as expensive as the PVC. Usually, both varieties of installations demand less hard work when compared to the iron installs, therefore the professional may perhaps demand less.

Both of those items can be without difficulty found online or on real suppliers, for equivalent prices. Typically the PVC is just a couple of money more inexpensive as opposed to the PEX tubing, and so the actual price cannot be viewed as except getting substantial portions. Then again, fixtures important for PEX as well the various tools and appliances important to mount the replacements are noticeable more costly as compared with PVC varieties.

Testing, cleaning and disinfection of PEX Plumbing system

PEX Plumbing system network after experiencing internal pressure is mounting on the strength and integrity. experience plumbing pipeline hydraulic or pneumatic way twice. To eliminate leaks in mint or other compounds and the identification of fistula in the pipes for the first time the pipeline have to backfill the trench and install the valves.

The second time the pipeline passes the final test after backfilling of trenches and completion of all work on this section of the pipeline. Preliminary testing of PEX Plumbing system networks need to start after the joints become necessary strength.

This test is performed after filling the pipeline with water (for hydraulic test) or air (pneumatic test). The test pipeline is separate parts of a length not more than 1 km.

Scheme of hydraulic test plumbing pipeline:
1 – subject truboprvod;
2 – support;
3 – flange;
4 – air release valve;
5 – temporary inflow;
6 – hydraulic press;
7 – manometer;
8 – control valve;
9 – cork valve;
10 – gauge tank

When testing with water that there was no displacement of pipes, the ends of the pipe is closed with blank flanges and fixed stops. Then fill the pipeline with water from the temporary PEX Plumbing system, watching the removal of air from the pipe through the crane mounted at the highest point of the pipeline.

With the help of Taco pump plumbing pipeline creates the necessary pressure. As such a pump Firm Agrovodkom “proposes to use hand pumps GN-200 GN-500 GN-60. When testing a plumbing pipeline should consider the possibility of pipe rupture and dispersal of the fragments, so you need to take all measures to prevent.

PEX pipe for home

So, the merits of polymer pipes are primarily those qualities.
PEX pipe have a unique chemical resistance and corrosion non susceptibility. Despite its ease (their density is 5-8 times lower than that of steel), polymer pipes are strong enough and resilient.
The thermal conductivity of polymers is much lower than in metals, and therefore less heat loss during transportation of hot fluids (eg, networks of hot water).

Along with these positive properties of polymers are not without significant drawbacks.
When heated, the strength of PEX decreases. Like all organic materials, polymers, burn, and under the influence of UV aging (made brittle and break).

The disadvantages of PEX should also include a large (10 times greater than steel), the coefficient of thermal expansion. True, the elasticity of polymers partially compensates for this shortcoming.

According to the authors, the main disadvantage of PEX pipe is exposure to aging. This quality is inherent in all polymers, as they are on the verge of a “living and nonliving,” and many are subject to the laws of the living world. The aging process is accompanied by a decrease in elasticity, strength, increased fragility and spontaneous cracking.

PEX Plumbing system of plastic pipes

Polymeric materials, which are called in everyday plastics, have become part of everyday life man, penetrating into all areas of industrial production. The use of PEX plastic pipe began almost simultaneously in Europe, USA and Japan in the early 50′s of XX century.
These pipes due to a number of positive properties actively began to replace steel and cast iron.

Polymer pipe lighter metals and asbestos, do not corrode and easily connect to the system. By the year 2000 in Western Europe polymer pipes to dominate:
in Switzerland, the extent of their use in new construction and major repair was 70%, Finland – 51%, Germany – 46%

And despite the fact that somehow not quite serious look coiled into rolls colored plastic tubes on a background of heavy (sturdy) steel and iron pipes, scales the global construction market has steadily declined in their direction. Polymeric pipes have a number of advantages, that will surely gain the upper hand over their shortcomings.

PEX x male threaded elbows to bend a pipe line by 90 degrees

Many fittings are required to install any kind of water pipe line for a home or any of the official establishments. An elbow is a device used to change direction of a water or electrical pipeline.  It is a device or an interface which connects two sections of a system so that the function of the system remains effective even when it has to change the direction.  In case of the water pipe line device, they connect two pipes of different diameters to continue the flow of water freely.   The pipe line which has a larger diameter coming from one direction is turned and the pipe connected at the other end can be of the same size or of a lesser diameter. The use of elbow is common in the layout of the water pipe lines.

They are made of brass and are compatible with PEX pipes.  So they are called the PEX x male threaded elbows. The pipes are fitted by using the threads cut on the elbow. It is the traditional style of attaching the pipes to a connector. In a male elbow the threaded part is male in character where the threads are cut on the outer side of the elbow. The PEX pipe has to be fit in such that the brass fitting is on the inside of the pipe. Very little of the brass portion of the elbow can be seen in this kind of fitting. The pipes connected from both sides cover up the elbow to a large extent.

The different sizes available are 1/2 “PEX which can accommodate 1/2 “male threaded elbow. It means the pipes fitted to the elbow on both the ends are of the same size. The other commonly used size is the1 /2 “PEX with 3/ 4” male threaded elbow. In this case there is a difference of the size of the pipes. The other two sizes are 3/ 4 X 3/ 4 and 3 /4 X 1. As a precautionary measure it is advisable to fit the elbow threaded part of the PEX fitting first.

How to Use Pex Underground

There are a number of different rules and restriction that may apply to PEX pipe when placed underground, depending on the jurisdiction. It is becoming increasingly common for homeowners to use PEX pipe underground instead of the traditional metal pipes. this is because there are some advantages to using PEX. For instance, PEX meets the requirements for hot and cold water distribution pipes, and also is less prone to leaking during a freeze. Instead of cracking like the traditional copper pipes, PEX will expand along with the ice that forms inside of the tube, and then will slowly contract as the ice melts. This makes it an ideal material in areas that experience frequently cold weather.

PEX is used both underground and throughout the home to deliver water to the different fixtures in the home. It is easy to lay underground because no flame or soldering equipment is required to create joints and connections, which will save you a lot of time in the long run. Instead of the typical soldering equipment, PEX pipe uses a number of different crimping tools, fittings, and crimp rings to ensure that all of the connections are air tight.

First, dig a trench or hole where you would like the pipe to be installed. Ensure that you have all of your PEX tubing cut to the appropriate size This can be done with a PEX cutting tool. Some individuals choose to use a PVC cutting tool, and while it may work, you would like the cleanest cut that you can produce, so a PEX cutting tool would be ideal.

Ensure that the bottom of your ditch is ready to support the tubing. ensure that you are laying the material on stable soil, so that if there is a leaking issue down the road, you won’t have any sink holes to worry about in your back yard. If you are worried about how stable the trench is, try digging half a foot deeper.

run the tubing along the trench. Make sure that your pipe has enough room to breath; meaning that you have accounted for the fact that PEX pipe will contract and expand depending on the changing in temperature. It is ideal to dig a straight ditch and run one long pipe along the bottom fo the ditch, but if you have no other options, you can create an underground joint as well.

Then, place the protective sleeve around the areas where the pipe enters the home. Ensure that the sleeve extends out at least a foot and a half from the home. Once you have the pipe laid and connected to the system in the home, cover the pipe up again with fresh soil. Make sure that there is nothing int he soil that could potentially puncture the pipe.

RAUPINK pipe radiator systems and underfloor heating

PEX Heating pipe RAUPINK firm REHAU can only be used in heating systems.

RAUPINK is a tube threaded from peroxide by polyethylene oxygen barrier layer of  CPVC.

In heating pipe RAUPINK can be used as a supply line with a temperature of 90 ° C with a maximum operating pressure of 9 bar. Briefly (in emergency mode) allowed its operation reduce the heat at 110 ° C.

* – Supply pipelines of different lengths can be customized.
Marking of pipes

Pipes RAUPINK have through marking every meter with the following characteristics:

* Brand manufacturer
* Pipe material and method of matching,
* Outside diameter and wall thickness,
* Product No.
* Number DIN
* The maximum allowable working pressure and temperature for heating,
* Registration number and a sign of passing inspection
* Number of extruder
* Number of shifts,
* The date of manufacture
* Sequentially numbered meters.

Use of PEX pipes

There are two types of metal pipes. In the first, between two identical layers of polymer is a layer of aluminum. The adhesive layer allows you to throw in a layer of aluminum to the polymer. As the polymer used “cross-linked” polyethylene. These tubes are denoted by PEX-Al-PEX.

In the second type layer of aluminum is located on the outer surface of the pipe. It is protected on top

with a thin layer of polymer. Clutch provides or adhesive layer (pipe PEX) or a polymer, which flow

into the perforations in the aluminum tube. In both cases, aluminum pipe is obtained from the strips of

aluminum foil, which wraps the polymer core. Foil welded with a laser.

Pipes PEX-Al-PEX is used in cold and hot water. They are used in underfloor and radiator heating systems,

water conditioning, heating soil in greenhouses and hothouses. Apply the metal-tube can be separately, and

combining with other pipes.

Metal-pipe suitable for all types of gaskets. The special properties of pipes reduce installation time due

to the smaller number of connections, lack of preliminary preparations. Due to the flexibility of pipes,

you can choose either the traditional tee, or the collector circuit installation of water supply.

The collector circuit is more reliable and maintainability, and is widespread in modern construction. It

allows you to place a regulatory and valves in a single technological closet.

Is recommended that the metal-pipe hidden in the mines, canals, furrows. It must provide access to the

detachable connections and valves.

Other horizontal pipes to prevent the formation of air pockets in the pipes must be installed

with a rise of more than 0,003 in the direction of water fittings. This recommended to lay the

pipeline in the casing.

Tubes, kept at a temperature below 0 ° C should be soaked for days at a temperature of 10 ° C. Pipe lay

without tightness that did not fall into the mud, loose ends of the pipes close plugs.

Metal pipes are connected to each other by means of crimp fittings and a clamp. For the installation does

not need any expensive tools or highly skilled artist.

When using the press and threaded fittings, outdoor press sleeve is pressed onto the pipe. O-rings provide

a density between the insert and the inner wall of the pipe.

Mounting a threaded fitting exercise tight tightening nut. As of press fitting the outer sleeve clenching

with the pressing tool. Connection-in-one crimping, the threaded connection can loosen the nut, insert in

this case will be closely connected with the pipe. Press mites can be used with an electric press machine,

and battery-press. For pipes with a diameter of 14-20 mm using hand-press machine. For connecting threaded

fittings need only wrenches.

Installation of pipes made with brass fittings, compression type. They consist of a bean, split ring and

nut, and provide a firm connection of pipes and fittings with a spanner.

The main advantage of this connection is that during installation do not need special equipment, and in

case of need can be quickly removed any connection.

Composite pipe is cut off or a special cutter or a hacksaw with a fine tooth. Bend the pipe with your

hands or bending. Also, the PEX pipes without creases use special springs. The minimum bend radius of

five outer diameter of bent pipe. Pipe clamps and mounted a minimum of clamps, as they retain their shape

well, and their coefficient of linear expansion smaller than that of PEX pipes. Connecting tubes,

should make sure they are compatible, since different manufacturers wall thickness and external diameters

of pipes, even for the same pressure is rarely the same.

Connecting pipes must adhere to the following sequence:

1. Cut the pipe on the markup.

2. Remove from the inner surface of the chamfer and Flare the pipe.

3. Put the pipe union nut and split ring.

4. Calibrate the pipe and mark the depth of the input.

5. Moisten the connection.

6. Connect the PEX pipe fitting. Butt pipe should rest against the edge of the fitting.

7. Tighten the nut without the distortions and displacements of the keys to the stop, but do not

overtightened.

As practice shows, the collected compound is better not to touch it, but theoretically it can be re-

disassemble and assemble. In the case of repairing the damaged part of a better place to insert a new,

combining it fitting under the clamp or crimp.

Mounting the piping must take precautions: use a pipe in accordance with their characteristics (pressure

and temperature), the transposition of pipes ensure that their surfaces were not damaged, the fittings

shall be from the same manufacturer as the pipe does not apply much effort When tightening the nut

fitting.

In addition to the compression type fittings, the installation of plumbing supply and radiant heating systems have

been used press fittings. They have some advantages in comparison with compression fittings. Installation

conditions permitted concealed strip press fittings, casting in concrete.

Many companies for permanent connection of metal pipes used steel crimp sleeves.

With the end of the tube is removed the inner chamfer and injected into her caliber to correct the

roundness, which is formed during the cutting. In the calibrated pipe fitting insert with rubber O-rings.

Where metal-tube contact with the metal connecting piece, to protect against elektro-corrosion install

insulating gasket. The steel sleeve is crimped press mites.

With the proper crimp will see two circular strips, and metal must be arched. Allowable pressure of the

fluid in the joints – 10 bar.

PEX pipes for plumbing systems of buildings

Pex Plumbing systems are pressure-free buildings. This creates the illusion of the possibility of a simpler half-phase as to the choice of materials for manufacture of sewer pipes and fittings, as well as to the design and construction of sewerage from the buildings of these pipes.

Meanwhile, in the process of exploitation is the plumbing system are the most “unpleasant” of systems engineering equipment of buildings: the widespread rubbish accumulated drainage pipes leading to flooding basements of buildings with liquid waste, due to intermittent exhaust parts sewer risers are failures of hydraulic valves in sanitary and partings of toxic and explosive sewer gases into the premises where people reside; fumes in sewer systems and wells, including the yard drain, resulting in the death of untrained staff, etc.

Reliability of sewerage systems depends on many factors, of which one of the key is the quality of pipes, fittings and accessories. Plays a substantial role as the calculation of systems and quality installation of pipelines.

It should be emphasized that the piping systems, drainage buildings operate in a rather complex mode. This includes an endless dump waste water in different quantities, and constantly changing the temperature of the liquid (from +4 to +95 ° C) is, finally, should apply to waste water, which included not only contains the components of the effluent, but and foreign objects (construction and other debris, food waste, rags, toys, etc.), in 95 percent of the cases is the cause of clogged.

Therefore, to the pipes for plumbing systems of buildings certain requirements: they must not be subject to corrosion, such as steel pipe, the inner surface must be smooth enough, and they should be fairly easy, unlike cast iron pipes, their walls must not be exposed to the gas corrosion, as is the case with reinforced concrete pipes, they should not be so fragile as asbestos cement pipes. In addition, they must have reliable tight connection, easy to mount and unmounted, and serve at least 50 years.

After a long search for the global construction practice was such a pipe – it is certainly pipes of pex materials. If we recall that the system in-house plumbing appeared in the late 70-ies of the XIX century, and the widespread use of PEX pipes began in the early 50-ies of XX century, we can conclude that the search for the optimum material has spent nearly 80 years.

Perhaps as a result of research will find other, more effective materials.

In the Soviet Union began the application of PEX pipes in the sewerage systems of buildings should be allocated to 1956, when the homes of Seattle have been used polyethylene pipe and fittings. Serial application of these pipes began in the mid 60-ies.

Despite the fact that the replacement of sewerage systems iron sewer pipes and fittings for pipes and fittings are made of polyethylene of low pressure was a huge step forward, quickly emerged and disadvantages of the latter. First of all, it should be noted that the elasticity of polyethylene pipes for long storage leads to deformation of their smooth ends, ie turn them into an ellipse, while the tops are kruglotsilindricheskimi. In this regard, the production assembly jobs have problems associated with the return of the modified form of smooth pipe ends to kruglotsilindricheskoy form. Second, PEX tubes are recommended in the sewerage systems of buildings at the permanent waste no more than 60 “C. At the present time, the massive introduction into the life of the citizens of washing machines and dishwashers, which give a sufficiently long run-off with temperature 95oS use of polyethylene pipes becomes problematic.

With regard to fire safety of buildings, which use PEX pipes, this problem is common to all types of PEX pipes, and below we look at it in more detail.

It should be noted that, since the mid 70-ies, in the mass construction of sewerage systems of residential and public buildings are being introduced faster pace pipes and fittings of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). In particular, in Seattle’s construction of widely used products of the Finnish company Uponor (now one of the most reputable and largest global companies – manufacturers of PEX pipes and fittings), and then, with putting into operation of chemical plant Dorogomilovsky NGO “PEX” (Seattle) – products of this plant.

It is believed that at present in USA to 90% of the plumbing systems of buildings of various functions have a plumbing system of PVC pipes and fittings. Unlike polyethylene pipes PVC pipes are rigid, their smooth ends during storage does not lose kruglotsilindricheskoy form, they are simply installed and removed with them easily enough to withstand the design gradients gravity networks.

However, as polyethylene pipes, PVC pipes are recommended for the transportation of waste water at a temperature no higher than 60 ° C, so in this case, there is the same problem with the mass introduction of washing machines and dishwashers.

An alternative to PVC pipes were tubes made of polypropylene, which appeared on the US market in the beginning of the 90 goals the last century. These pipe systems are designed for domestic plumbing transportation perennial with a temperature of 80 ° C. Within 5 minutes they keep the temperature of 100 ° C without disturbing the rigid pipes. Polypropylene Pipes – the same tough as PVC pipes, they are just as easily mounted and dismounted and keep the project grade.

Design and installation of domestic plumbing from the PEX pipes are sufficiently detailed regulatory and technical support. This SNIP 2.04.01-85 ‘Internal water supply and sewerage of buildings “, SP 40-102-2000

“Design and installation of pipelines for water supply and sewerage systems from pex materials”, SP 40-107-2003 “Design, installation and maintenance of systems of internal sewerage BB polypropylene pipes, GOST 22689.0 – 22689.2-89″ Polyethylene pipes and sewer fittings to them ” as well as numerous technical conditions of companies – manufacturers of PEX pipes and fittings.

In accordance with one of the last sets of rules at the federal level SP 40-102-2000 “plumbing systems of buildings” in the design should keep in mind sewers designed for the transportation of waste water at a constant temperature above 75 ° C and, briefly, at least 1 min – with a temperature of not less than 90 ° C (Section 4.1.1.). Since the pipe made of polyethylene and PVC are designed for constant temperature sinks 60oC, Gosstroi USA directs builders on pipes made of polypropylene.

It should be noted that long before the release of SP 40-102-2000 leading foreign firms began to produce pipes and fittings for drainage systems inside is made of polypropylene. These firms include the Finnish company Uponor, a German company Ostendorf, Italian firms Martoni, Co.ES and Redi. In the late 90-ies they were joined by the US company NPO Stroypolimer and Sinikon.

The main legislative instrument for designing sewerage systems of buildings – SNIP 2.04.01-85. “Its rules apply to residential and public buildings up to 25 floors, inclusive, and the administrative buildings up to 40 meters. These rules are consistent with SUPEN Soviet Interior Ministry and provide the necessary weight requirements for fire safety knowledge, which use PEX pipes – Polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC.

The first two belong to the class of polyolefins – Macromolecular compounds obtained by polymerization of unsaturated hydrocarbons, olefins. Poly-olefins are flammable, combustible materials, they burn in the flame zone, and outside the polyethylene ignited at a temperature of 310 – 340 ° C, tubes made of polypropylene are inflammable. Rigid PVC refers to the group and the slow-inflammable materials. Ignite it with great difficulty in the area of the fire. Outside PVC flame goes out.

The main requirement of fire protection – to prevent the spread of fire from room to room or from floor to floor. The spread of fire may contribute to PEX pipes, which are burning, that is, the pipe of polyolefins.

In 1985-1986. SRI specialists Mosstroya and All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Fire Defense (VNIIPO) in the village Nekrasovka Seattle region and in the range VNIIPO performed three series of fire tests of sewerage from polyethylene and PVC pipes. As a result of the investigations carried out have been formulated and incorporated in SNIP 2.04.01-85 fire regulations laying of PEX pipe systems, drainage of fuel (polyethylene, polypropylene) and noncombustible (PVC) materials in vertical and horizontal sections. Strict adherence to these rules removes restrictions on the use of PEX pipes in the sewerage systems of buildings up to 75 m, with regard to building height exceeding 75 m (400 m), who began to erect in Seattle in recent years, the possibility of using them in PEX pipes require reasoned discussion in this article is not considered.

In our view, more relevant question is about the quality of PEX pipes and fittings are supplied to the US market. The technological process of production is no detail – it is important to the quality of processing equipment (extruders, injection molding), the quality of the raw material (and therefore the requirement for incoming inspection of this quality must necessarily be present in the standard or technical conditions for production of pipes and fittings), constant control over the production process, a permanent laboratory control of finished products, etc. Unfortunately, in the US market can be found pipes and fittings, with different wall thickness, ovality, wall thickness is too small, the violation tolerance (smooth end of one pipe can not be entered into the socket and the other, etc.).

Builders who care about the quality of constructed facilities (and, hence, its reputation) prefer building materials (including pipes, fittings, accessories) reputable manufacturers, proven in the US market. Given the huge market demand for pipes and fittings, we can only welcome the construction of factories in USA for their production, supported by advanced foreign firms. As one of the most recent examples include a workshop for the production of polypropylene pipes for plumbing systems of buildings commissioned in the current year JSC “Santehcomplect” with the active support of the German company Ostendorf, which has worked well in the US market.

Production of pipes and pipeline parts of polypropylene has great prospects of production in USA. Currently, there is a reserve unmet demand for polypropylene products, as evidenced by the steady increase in the share of imports in USA behold.

It is believed that the increase in the production of pipes and pipeline fittings domestic producers will lead to lower prices for these products with its consistently high quality.

Preventing freezing of your PEX plumbing pipes

There are some situations that will bring some clogging to your pipes and one of the most severe one is pipe freeze. This usually happens during the winter season where the pipes get exposed to the environment in which the temperatures go way below the freezing point of water. Whether the pipe is a PEX pipe, or it is a galvanized one, at some point, all of them will get their content freezing, thus causing some clogging in the system. There are some measures that can be taken in order to prevent these pipes from such disappointments.  The following are some of the examples.

1. In case of a prolonged period without using the system, it is safer to cut the supply from the main supply. During vacations, make sure that all water inlets are turned off just for the sake of the PEX piping

2.         Some of your PEX pipes can be passing through some areas that can be exposed to chilly air. Such places as garages should be kept locked whenever they are not in use.

3.         In the same line as the above, be advised to keep the doors of your kitchen cabinets and bathroom storage areas open. This is because the house may contain warmer air than the water in the pipes that usually pass through these areas. By opening the doors, the PEX piping gets exposed to contact with air. Carefully keep any harmful chemicals away from the reach of children.

4.         Leave some trickling in your tap. This may seem controversial, and a waste of resources but a lot more can be wasted in clogged up pipes. The drip in one pipe will cause significant water motion that triggers energy in the system, keeping the water in the pipes at above freezing point.

5.         Do a random check of the house and its environs. Any noticeable places which need to, be insulated should be done so immediately. Hot water PEX pipes will also need to be insulated.

6.         Make sure to install fittings that accommodate insulators in your construction procedures.

PEX plumbing installation

One of the biggest advantages of PEX tubing or plumbing over brass piping is how easy it is to install and maintain. Nevertheless, there are certain things that every homeowner needs to know and remember even as when re-plumbing your piping and switch to PEX from brass.

Brass pipes have thinner walls than PEX pipes which results in decreased water pressure, since the water has a larger area to flow through. With this in mind, it is usually a brilliant idea to replace brass pipes with PEX tubing that is one size larger, for example, use 1/2” PEX tubing for ¼” brass tubing.

Some of the tools that are likely to be needed include PEX crimp fittings, full-circle PEX crimping tool, shut off valves, flexible tubing cutter, PEX supply pipe and transition fittings. Do not cut corners when it comes to using the right tools. Cheap or inappropriate tools will result in poor connections and, an ineffective piping system that will ultimately cost more to fix than what would have been used originally with the right equipment.

PEX tubing makes use of crimp-ring or compression system. This ensures that the connections are sealed tightly and drastically reduces the chances of future leakages. The crimp-ring should ideally be placed 1/8” to ¼” from the end of the pipe. Use of measurements that are not within this range is likely to result in a weak connection that will ultimately end up leaking. Hose clamps should not be used in place of crimp-rings.

The crimping tool must be used at a 90 degree angle otherwise the ribs will not be fully covered, and the piping will get dents in it.

Ensure that the pinch or crease PEX tubing is not folded while handling them. Also, take care not to walk on it.

Welding PEX pipes does not usually require dire precautionary measures other than the usual care that needs to be taken with the equipment used. The process hardly has any significant, unpleasant side effects since it is normally not noisy and produces little dirt. Soldering usually takes up around 220V.

All the joint work must be given a second look before the plumbing can be declared done. Each tube ending should have an appropriate crimp. The crimp-ring will be bent out of shape and will not give a consistent crimp if it was not covered well by the crimping tool. Some of the fitting ribs may also be left exposed if the tubing is not properly cut.

Happy plumbing (with PEX, of course)!
