These mechanisms do not go without there defects. You will discover that the tether float is prone to obstruction from movement. It may require replacement time to time. The advantage is that it is friendlier to your wallet. It is cheap. The frequent replacement of the switch should not deter you from using this kind of pump.

The vertical float is less obstructed to movement compared to the probe and diaphragm. The good thing is that there are pumps which allow the changing of the switch whilst the pump is still in place. If you prefer not servicing the pump frequently, the probe and diaphragm should be you r choice.
