Expansion Tanks

The Proper Way to Install an Expansion Tank

Everyone knows that the heat causes expansion. So, there must be an expansion tank in a water heating system to stop the overflow of the water.  When water is heated and expands, it may cause a pipe to leak or even burst, if someone does not have an expansion tank to control the overflow of the water. It may also damage the water heating system. For that reason, everyone needs to have an expansion tank or special valve in their water heating system to release the overflowed water or the excess pressure. In fact, the well-x-trol tanks are the best, because they can hold more water than the valves.

It is no too difficult to install an expansion tank. However, a large number of people are not aware with the fact. Now, let’s move to the installing process of such tanks. First of all, you need to determine the size of the boiler expansion tanks that you are looking for. It means that you have to ensure first how many gallons your water heating system can hold within it. After measuring the particular, you may go for an expansion tank according to the capacity of your water heating system. So, always buy an expansion tank that goes with your heating system, as it is the first and foremost issue of choosing an expansion tank.

Place the cold water supplying line, and find out which part of this line will run horizontal to the heating system. It is the area where you need to place your expansion tank, and you have to connect the water heater at the same place as well. One thing you need to keep in mind always that the power should be switched off during installing the expansion tank in case of electric water heater. However, if you use a gas water heater, then you must not handle it devoid of having proper knowledge in that particular domain. If you do such, then there could be a dangerous accident may take place. So, do it only if you know the proper procedure or have any experience.

Now, turn off the water supply in the water heating system. Then, place the expansion tank on top of the cold water line. Place it properly that it can manage both the water heating system as well as the horizontal part. After that, verify that the expansion tank is fixed safely and properly. Then install the tee fitting to the cold-water line. Then look on which end the expansion tank fits the tee fitting. Then, never forget to wrap the Teflon tape around the end. After completing the whole process, ensure if there anything remains to be done. You may look for the Amtrol tanks for having better result.
